EMA Leaders meet Union Health Minister Shri. JP Nadda

Principal Secretary of The Emergency Medicine Association Dr. Vimal Krishnan Pillai and his team met with Union Minister of Health for the Government of India Shri. JP. Nadda. The current status of emergency services in India at the grass root level were analyzed introspected. “Academic Emergency Medicine is the backbone of the pursuit to build quality health services in the country and that is what we discussed in the meeting” said Dr. Vimal Krishnan, Principal Secretary of EMA India. “Progressive strategies like The inculcation of resuscitation sciences into the medical undergraduate curriculum and methods towards improvement in community awareness on basic resuscitation measures were also discussed in the meeting” said Dr. Jayaraj Balakrishnan, EMA Executive Director. Dr. Vimal Said that “The Hon’ble Minister added that accreditation bodies and policy makers should work in synergy to deliver quality Emergency services.” The EMA Leadership appraised Shri. Nadda of all the current obstacles which were preventing the expected exponential growth of Emergency medicine in India. Minister Nadda Appreciated the work of INDUSEM, The INDO-US Emergency and Trauma Collaborative under and the Leadership of Dr. Sagar Galwankar which over the past decade has being instrumental in nurturing academic Emergency Medicine in India. Shri. Nadda added that his role lies in filling the gap between accreditation bodies and the national policy makers. He also welcomed the efforts of the Academic College of Emergency Experts (ACEE) to improve quality in academic Emergency Medicine and translating it to patient centric research. A man of action true to his word was Shri. Nadda was quick to analyze the current state of matters and was prompt with adequate solutions. He preferred both short term goals and a long term visionary plan with emphasis on formulating a roadmap for Emergency Medicine.

The white paper on Emergency Medicine by INDUSEM group was extensively reviewed in the meeting and was well received by Shri J P Nadda. Dr. Jayraj said that “Brainstorming with the dynamic and wise Hon’ble Minister, EMA India team discussed various possibilities and strategies to achieve short term goals and chalk long term plans. The Honorable minister also advised setting up a meeting with major stakeholders in the near future.” EMA India always has believed that ‘state of the art emergency health care is a fundamental right of every citizen’. The EMA Leadership wants to work at the grass root and serve as a link between all working strata related to emergency services and has pledged to support the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and work in tandem with the Government to realize the dream of quality emergency care to all.
