Pariyaram Propagates Primary Emergency Care

ACEE-EMA Leaders from Academy of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram Medical College in partnership with theState Government of Kerala conducted a comprehensive week long training program to improve emergency care at district and primary heath care level for doctors of Palakkad and Kasargod districts in Kerala.

The Emergency Medicine Department of Pariyaram Medical College worked closely with the state government in imparting basic emergency and trauma care skills to government doctors. The program was conducted in two phases, as 3-days training program for both districts. The district medical officers sent teams of 20 doctors each from their respective districts to get trained at Pariyaram medical college. The training program included didactic theory classes, group discussions and hands-on workshops on basic & advanced life support, advanced trauma life support on common emergencies and trauma care. Hands-on skills training included emergency procedures that could be performed at primary and secondary levels of care.

The sessions were conducted by expert faculty from Emergency Medicine headed by Professor Dr. Suresh G who led sessions on neurological emergencies and radiological interpretations. Associate Professor Dr. Madavan Nambiar held sessions on medical, hematological and renal emergencies. Assistant Professor Dr. Manu Ayyan handled sessions on cardiac and gastrointestinal emergencies with ACLS and emergency procedure workshops. Dr. Vimal Rohan, Assistant Professor held sessions on basic resuscitation and trauma along with mechanical ventilation and airway workshops.Dr. Nisanth Menon handled sessions on triage, disaster management and respiratory emergencies along with advanced trauma life support workshops. Dr. Mohammed Fabin handled sessions on gynecologic and orthopedic emergencies with basic life support workshops.

The feedbacks from participants and district medical officers were testimonial enough for the grand success of the program. “The basic emergency training was taken by a team of dedicated real emergency physicians (MD Emergency Medicine), and it showed too. Excellent one, both theory and hands-on were very nicely taken and covered almost every common emergency. I hope every DMO arrange this same training to all doctors at taluk, district and general hospitals. It will definitely improve the quality of care” said Dr. Rejaneesh from Palakkad district after the training. Similar feedbacks were received unanimously from all participants who attended the program.
