EMA Odisha under the championship of EMA Odisha Undersecretary Professor Dr. Siddhartha Mishra accomplished the landmark skills school EMSono25.

EMSono25 was held in KIMS Bhubaneswar (Kalinga) on the 17th and 18th June 2025. The focus of the school was on POCUS guided Nerve blocks for pain management.

This academic event was conducted in partnership with WACEM INCUS – the International Network for Critical Ultrasound and is proudly noted as the first-ever workshop in Eastern India to incorporate cadaveric demonstrations of advanced nerve block techniques.

This was a translation science guided event wherein Cadavers were used to simulate real life scenarios as nerve block techniques were demonstrated.

The workshop brought together participants from across India, representing top-tier institutions such as AIIMS (New Delhi), JIPMER (Puducherry), ESIC Medical College (Chennai), and various premier medical colleges from Odisha and beyond. The enthusiasm, diversity of attendees, and the interactive format underscored a shared commitment to enhancing patient care in acute pain scenarios.

With POCUS becoming an indispensable tool in modern emergency and critical care, the workshop aimed to provide clinicians with in-depth anatomical knowledge, hands-on ultrasound skills, and the confidence to perform regional nerve blocks safely and effectively in emergency settings.

EM leaders of all hospitals & institutions in Bhubaneswar were also invited with a vision to expand the academic emergency ideology across Odisha.

What set this workshop apart was its unique structure—each block was taught through live scanning on models followed by cadaveric demonstration, enabling participants to understand both the Sono anatomy and the actual dissection anatomy in real-time.

The academic rigor of the workshop was assured by a stellar lineup of faculty who are pioneers and national leaders in the field of emergency medicine and emergency ultrasound. Dr Sanjeev Bhoi, Dr Anand Kumar Das, Dr Vineeth Chandran Karapparambil & Dr Jyothiswaroop Bhaskararayuni were the faculty for this initiative.

The inauguration ceremony was graced by eminent dignitaries and leaders in healthcare and medical education: Dr Ram Chandra Das AVM, Dr Sunil Kumar Patnaik, Dr Sukadev Nayak & Dr R.N. Samanta.

Their presence highlighted the institutional support and recognition the workshop garnered as a step toward modernizing emergency pain management in India.

Assisting Professor Mishra was a dedicated team of doctors from the Department of Emergency Medicine and Department of Anatomy namely Dr Prajna Paramita Samanta, Dr Ashwani Sharma& Dr Benazir Maherin.

Their seamless coordination, from logistics and academic content to cadaver lab execution, ensured that every aspect of the workshop exceeded expectations.

An emotional aspect of this school was the oath taking ceremony respecting the cadavers. It is because of the cadavers that we could accomplish this training school.

Dr. Mishra also serves as the Head of Emergency Medicine at KIMS and is an ASHWAMEGH Fellow in addition to being past Military Physician who served and honorably retired from Armed Forces of India… our BHARAT.
