Mega EM Sono 2025, India’s largest point-of-care ultrasound (POCUS) training initiative, was successfully conducted on 25th & 26th July 2025 at Jubilee Mission Medical College & Research Institute, Thrissur, the Southern Regional Training Hub of the International Network for Critical Ultrasound (INCUS).

Organized under the auspices of the Emergency Medicine Association India, Academic College of Emergency Experts, and the WHO Collaborating Centre for Emergency and Trauma – South-East Asia Region (WHOCCET-SEAR), the event was nothing short of a medical Thrissur Pooram—a grand confluence of minds, machines, and mentorship in clinical ultrasound.

At its heart were:

  • 106 delegates from across 11 Indian states and one international delegate from Canada,
  • 20 expert POCUS instructors from premier institutions including AIIMS (New Delhi & Nagpur), JIPMER, KMC Manipal, KMC Mangalore, and Jubilee Mission Medical College,
  • 20 high-quality ultrasound machines from five leading vendors,
  • 20 indigenous vascular phantoms innovatively designed for procedural training,
  • 40 adult volunteers, ensuring realistic, patient-centric hands-on scanning across 20 dedicated POCUS stations.

And 35 curated collection of abstracts showcasing the clinical, educational, and research contributions in POCUS in India  cite: Chanchal A.B.V, Abraham, S.V  (2025, August 5). With a 1:6 instructor-to-delegate ratio, the workshop ensured immersive, high-yield, bedside-style learning—mirroring the orchestration, scale, and synchrony of the Thrissur Pooram elephants and percussion ensembles.

This landmark initiative set a historic precedent in ultrasound education in India, being the first to successfully train over 100 doctors simultaneously in a live, hands-on format. The energy, diversity, and academic fervour resonated deeply, making Mega EM Sono not just an event—but a movement in the making.

Academic & Scientific Highlights

  • Keynote Session: “Democratization of POCUS in India” by Prof. Dr. Sanjeev Bhoi, a pioneer in POCUS education in India.
  • Poster Presentations: More than 30 delegates presented posters, with all scientifically reviewed abstracts compiled into the abstract book “POCUS OPUS”, released during the course.
  • Mega EM Sono Quiz: Conducted by Dr. Amritanand VT (JIPMER Puducherry), with participation from over 10 teams across the country.
  • Simulation & Real-time Scanning: Both indigenously developed high-quality phantom models and live subjects were used, ensuring real-time, practical experience aligned with clinical workflows.
