RAKSHA BANDHAN ~0~ SURAKSHA BANDHAN 2025 Celebrated

Spearheaded by the INDUSEM consortium in 2022, this celebration, now celebrated annually, honors the tireless Emergency Physicians who stood as the first line of defense during the COVID-19 pandemic, transforming Emergency Departments into sanctuaries of 24/7 care and resilience.

On August 8, 2025, leaders from the Emergency Medicine Association of India (EMA India) and the Academic College of Emergency Experts (ACEE India) celebrated the fourth annual Raksha Bandhan–Suraksha Bandhan. Across hospitals and emergency departments, Emergency Medicine specialists tied rakhis to patients and colleagues alike, reaffirming their sacred promise: to protect, care for, and advocate for every patient, 24/7.

This gesture draws inspiration from the Mahabharata, where Draupadi tied a piece of her sari around Lord Krishna’s wounded finger, prompting his eternal vow to protect her. In the same spirit, Emergency Physicians across India pledged their lifelong commitment to safeguarding those in medical distress.

Photos, videos, and heartfelt reports poured in from emergency departments nationwide, capturing moments of solidarity, compassion, and pride. INDUSEM leaders stood tall, promoting the philosophy that Emergency Medicine is not just a specialty—it is a shield, a Raksha Kavach, for every citizen in crisis.

Raksha Bandhan–Suraksha Bandhan is the brainchild of Dr. Sagar Galwankar, CEO of INDUSEM and President of ACEE India. Under his leadership, the initiative has grown into a national movement that blends cultural reverence with medical advocacy.
