ECHO-SIM Launched

EMA Leader Professor Dr. Vivek Kumar spearheaded the launch of a simulation-based echocardiography skills school at DY Patil University, Navi Mumbai SIM Center on 23 March 2024.

The workshop focussed on learning echocardiography using high fidelity simulation [CAE Vimedix ultrasound training simulator] to facilitate clinical decision making in Emergency and Critical patient Care  scenarios.

Complex condition such as hypotension, shock, cardiac arrest, left and right ventricular systolic dysfunction, native & prosthetic valve disorders, infective endocarditis, acute aortic syndromes, were discussed as the learners gained skills on various resuscitation protocols like RUSH, SIMPLE, BLUE, FALLS, SALVATION, and CURE. 

These curated scenarios equipped learners for practicing the skills as well as gaining certifications for various competency tests being held by various agencies within India and across the world.

Learners enjoyed the luxurious hands on sessions which were non stressful and very interactive.

Standardization of the training program enabled learners to learn equally at a steady pace.

The course was conducted under the aegis of World Academic Council of Emergency Medicine [WACEM], & INDUSEM.

The curriculum is seeking support from The World Health Organization Collaborating Centre for Emergency and Trauma.

EMA SIMSONO Officer Dr Vivek Kumar [MD [Medicine], DNB [Medicine], IFCCM, EDIC, EDEC; Echocardiography & Simulation instructor, Mentor & supervisor for EDEC], Professor & Head, Critical Care Medicine, MGM Medical College and Hospital, Navi Mumbai served as the champion for this unique program.

He was supported by Dr Suchitra Mohite,  [DNB [Anaesthesia], IDCCM, EDAIC, MRCEM, FCCU [ISCCM]] Head of Emergency Medicine, KEM Hospital, Pune along with  Ms. Avita who served as the technology officer.

Dr Sagar Galwankar [MBBS, DNB, (INDIA), FRCP (UK), MPH, MBA, FAAEM, FAIM, Dip. ABEM (USA). Chief Academic Officer, The World Academic Council of Emergency Medicine (WACEM), Founder & President – The Academic College of Emergency Experts of India (ACEE), CEO of INDUSEM] was the academic mentor and director who worked on the designing the initiative.

Pune and Nagpur will be hosting this Skill School in the near future.
