EMA Celebrates World Emergency Medicine Day

27th May 2019 marked the dawn of new era for Emergency Medicine Globally.EMA India, the official Organization for Government of India Recognized, Residency Trained Degree Holding Real & Legitimate EM Specialists, collaborated with 24 EM organizations globally to celebrate WEM Day.

The aim of this Emergency Medicine day is to unite the world population and decision makers to think and talk about emergency medicine and emergency medical care. Activities conducted around the world emphasized the importance of building awareness about the need for well developed, well prepared and well-organized emergency medical systems everywhere in the world to increase survival and reduce disability after any urgent or emergent medical situation.

Emergency Medicine Association (EMA) collaborated with European Society for Emergency Medicine and brought together all MD & DNB Emergency Medicine residency programs in India to take part in World EM Day campaign by organizing a national e-poster competition. The theme for the poster competition was ”Competence Makes the Difference” aiming to explain to the people that emergency medical care is better performed with competent professionals; doctors, specialists in emergency medicine, nurses trained in emergency and acute care, paramedics, technicians, support personnel competent and working in organized structures and systems dedicated to emergency medical care.

A total of 47 E-Posters from about 37 emergency medicine residency programs took part in this national competition. All the E-Posters submitted were published in the social media handles of EMA (https://www.facebook.com/EMAIndian/, https://twitter.com/emaindian) and the best three posters were announced. First prize was bagged by Dr Prawal Shrimal&Dr Bharath Gopinath from Department of Emergency Medicine, AlIMS, New Delhi, Second prize by Dr Anandhi&Dr KNJ Prakash Raju from Department of Emergency Medicine, JIPMER, Puducherry and the third prize to E-Poster submitted by Department of Emergency Medicine, MOSC Medical College Hospital, Kolenchery, Kerala.

Dr Rajesh K EMA Andhra Pradesh State Undersecretary and In charge of Emergency department at SRI DEVARAJ URS MEDICAL COLLEGE AND RESEARCH CENTRE, Kolar organized the world EMDay celebrations in the Institute on able guidance of SRI DEVARAJ URS EDUCATION TRUST. The program was inaugurated by the chief guest Honorable Pro-Chancellor Dr. (air marshal) C k Ranjan and the Guest of Honors and Vice Chancellor Dr. Pradeep Kumar G of Sri DevarajURS University of Health Sciences, Kolar.Dr. K V N Prasad Registrar SDUAHER , Dr.Sreeramulu Principal and Dean SDUMC, Dr. Lakshmiah medical superintendent & Director medical services RLJH and Dr (prof) J. ZeanathCariena , chief nursing officers guided the event with all support and care .Poster competition was held for all the students of the university, Team EM played a skit on Code Blue for the audience, and guest lectures were presented on Role of Healthcare Professionals in Emergencies and Medico-legal aspects in emergencies.

KMCT medical college under the leadership of Dr.Fabin Incharge of Emergency and EMA organized the celebrations on May 27th with significant participation from medical students and staff. Posters were displayed in hospital and college corridors spreading awareness prepared by students from MBBS, BDS, PharmD, Nursing. MBBS students in KMCT hospital performed a MIME. It was very successful in reaching out to all people who attended, including patients, bystanders, students, Doctors and all the staff of KMCT institution.

Department of Emergency Medicine at Kasturba Medical College Manipal celebrated Emergency Medicine day on May 27, in a unique way .The day was kickstarted by Dr.Vivek Associate Professor Emergency Medicine addressing the heterogeneous audience who were mainly the group of undergraduates, Emergency Medicine enthusiastic club Tempus Pretioso. He also introduced the first PG residents of Emergency Medicine at Kasturba Medical College Manipal namely Dr. Khalid Mohammed, Dr.Chetana and Dr Manu. It was followed by an interactive EM advocacy talk on Career Opportunities in Emergency Medicine in which all the students and the team gladly participated, this was followed by prize distribution for the best Poster presentation and also the winners and runner’s up of the quiz TEMPUSRUN were awarded certificates and also Certificate was given for the best intern and Postgraduates from the department of Medicine were also recognized for their contribution. Emergency Medicine is team work and every contribution is recognized, the nursing, paramedical staff were awarded certificate of recognition. The celebration ended on a positive note with great memories made.
