EXAMTHALON is a high fidelity simulation program conducted annually by Department of Emergency Medicine of Jubilee Mission Medical College, Thrissur, endorsed by EMA-ACEE for EM residents from all around India. It is a meticulously curated program that aims to help the candidates to identify their strengths and weaknesses as well as equip them to brace the hurdles and prepare well in advance for their upcoming exams. It is designed on the structure of new DNB and MD board exams and involves renowned EM faculty from all over India.

The two day simulation program started with a mock theory exam, followed by didactic lectures and interactive sessions with faculty. Twenty five EM faculty including HODs and Professors from renowned Emergency Departments across the nation were present to conduct the practical sessions. The pattern consisting of long case presentations, short case presentations/virtual ward rounds, spotters along with didactic lectures from renowned faculty were incorporated to cater both MD and DNB pattern of examinations. Thirty candidates (15 MD and 15 DNB) from all over India participated and were evaluated based on stringent parameters, which included Data Acquisition, Comprehension of Pathophysiology, Problem Solving, Patient Management, Interpersonal Relations, Communication Skills, attitude, aptitude and Overall knowledge.

Candidates found this simulation exam very useful to find their strong hold as well as lacunae prior to facing the challenging board exams. The efforts of Dr. P C Rajeev. (Professor, Emergency Medicine, JMMC &RI), Dr. Deo Mathew (Senior Resident, Emergency Medicine, JMMC & RI) and Dr. Leenus Jacob (Senior Resident, Emergency Medicine, JMMC & RI) were appreciated by the students and faculty for organizing the event.

“Considering the popular demand, it is planned to conduct on a larger scale from the coming year, so that more candidates can be included along with conduct of mock theory examinations, psychomotor skills and attitude can also be tested simulating an actual board exam” said Dr Deo Mathew, the organizing secretary of EXAMTHALON ‘23.
