NEPALEM + INDUSEM = WEMSEM

The Academic College of Emergency Experts in India (ACEE) and Emergency Medicine Association (EMA) made a mark at the inaugural International WONCA Emergency Medicine conference – WEMSEM jointly conducted by the WONCA World Emergency Medicine special interest group (WONCA EM SIG) and The General Practitioner’s Emergency Medicine Association of Nepal (GPEMAN) at Kathmandu, Nepal on 9th and 10th August 2019.This was the inaugural Emergency Medicine conference of Nepal and attended by over 400 delegates.

Dr. Victor Ng, Chair of WONCA EM SIG presided over the meeting and Prof.Dr. Bharat Kumar Yadav, President of GPEMAN was the guest of honour. Prof.Dr.PratapNarayan Prasad was the Organising chairperson for WEMSEM.

ACEE Fellow Dr.Nisanth Menon N led two workshops – the ‘CRASH-ED’, a case based interactive learning of emergency patients presenting to the primary care physician.Dr. Roshan Mathew, Dr.NithyaMohanan, Dr.VrushaliSaudagar, Dr.Sreesahitya, Dr.Bikash Ranjan Rayand Dr. Satish Patiljoined Dr.Nisanth as Co-Faculty.

Delegates from Canada, Spain, United Kingdom, Kenya, India, Bangladesh, Srilanka, Bhutan, United States and Nepal participated in the workshops.

The Rural Emergency Care Training for Physicians (RECTIFY) workshop

The RECTIFY workshop is an innovative emergency medicine training imparted to primary care physicians from rural areas. The objective of the workshop was to capacitate rural primary care physicians across the globe by training them in successfully stabilizing sick patients in resource-poor settings. The CRASH-ED is the latest addition to RECTIFY series workshop. The faculty with varied backgrounds imparted training in various aspects of managing crashing patients.

The CRASH-US workshop on Resuscitative Ultrasonography

The CRASH-US workshop had sessions and hands-on training infocussed 2D Echocardiography, trauma resuscitation, USG-guided CPR and ultrasound protocols for patient management.Dr.Nisanth dealt with introductory session and sessions on trauma sonography, lung ultrasound.

About Dr. Nisanth Menon, MD (EM), FACEE, M.Med (FM)

Dr.Nisanth Menon N works as Assistant Professor of Emergency Medicine atAmala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur, Kerala. Alumni of Academy of Medical Sciences, Pariyaram, he also holds a fellowship in Family Medicine from Christian Medical College, Vellore and is certified in biostatistics from IIT, Madras. A fellow of ICMR and WHO, he has 8 publications in indexed journals, more than 30 oral papers and posters presented at various conferences,won 6 academic scholarships and awards and is a regular invited speaker for various international and national-level conferences. He is a recipient of the Youth Leadership Award in Primary care 2013, Health Leadership Award 2018 and Taiwanese Research Award 2018. His special area of interest is rural emergency medicine, primary emergency care empowerment, critical illness research and wilderness Medicine.

About the Faculty

Dr. Bikash Ranjan Ray, MD is Assistant Professor of Neuroanaes thesia at All India Institute of Medical Sciences , New Delhi. He has additional training in critical care sonography. He is a regular faculty of ICCES training programs and a speaker at national and international Emergency Medicine and Critical care conferences.

Dr.Nithya Mohanan, MD is Assistant Professor and head of Immunohematology and Transfusion Medicine at Amala Institute of Medical Sciences, Thrissur in Kerala and delivers talks at national and international conferences on trauma transfusions, irradiated bloodproduct transfusions and apheresis.

Dr.Vrushali Saudagar, DNB in Emergency Medicine is currently consultant Emergency Physician at Sahyadri hospitals, Pune. Dr. Satish Patil, DNB in Emergency Medicine is presently Associate consultant at DeenanathMangeshkar Hospital, Pune.

Dr.Sree Sahitya, DNB in Emergency Medicine is consultant Emergency Physician at Asian Institute of Gastroenterology, Hyderabad.Dr. Roshan Mathew is MD (EM) from All-India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), FACEE and is currently Senior Resident in the Emergency Medicine Department of AIIMS.
