THENI SANGAMAM was the 4th Annual State Conference of Academic Emergency Medicine successfully conducted at Government Theni Medical College, Theni, on 13th and 14th December 2025.
The conference brought together Emergency Medicine professionals, postgraduate residents, undergraduate students, and paramedics from across the state.
A total of 500 delegates attended the conference:
• Postgraduates (PGs): 150
• Paramedics: 300
• Undergraduates (UGs): 50
The conference was inaugurated by Thiru. Ranjeet Singh, I.A.S., District Collector, Theni District. During the inaugural session, the official conference souvenir was formally released, marking the academic significance of the event. In his inaugural address, the District Collector highlighted the vital role of Emergency Medicine in strengthening district-level healthcare delivery and improving public health systems.
The postgraduate academic sessions witnessed active scientific participation with around 25 case presentations and approximately 60 poster presentations. The sessions showcased clinical excellence, innovation, and evidence-based emergency care.
The postgraduate scientific sessions covered several important and contemporary themes in Emergency Medicine. An insightful session traced the journey of Emergency Medicine in India and South India, highlighting its evolution, major milestones, and future directions. This was followed by an excellent and thought-provoking discussion on the role of stellate ganglion block as a last line of defence in managing electrical storm and recurrent ventricular tachycardia, which generated significant academic interest. The sessions also included a highly practical and relevant discussion on medicolegal aspects in the Emergency Department, providing Emergency Medicine physicians with clear guidance on legal responsibilities, documentation, and real-world challenges faced in clinical practice.

The paramedic conference focused on strengthening essential frontline emergency care skills through targeted academic sessions. The programme included practical discussions on crash cart organization and the effective use of life-saving equipment, fundamentals of drug preparation and safe medication practices in emergencies, and essential airway management techniques. Sessions also emphasized ventilation basics, appropriate fluid administration during resuscitation, and early recognition and response to critical patient deterioration. These sessions were tailored to enhance decision-making, preparedness, and coordinated emergency response among paramedic participants.
The first day concluded successfully with the UG Quiz (Code Blue Edition) and the EM Simuluscape simulation games for postgraduate students, fostering teamwork and applied clinical reasoning.
Hands-on workshops were conducted for postgraduate students with structured rotation across multiple skill stations. These workshops included focused training on ECMO fundamentals and emergency department cannulation workflows, practical management of musculoskeletal, dental, and other common mini procedures encountered in the emergency setting, advanced point-of-care ultrasound covering critical applications, and advanced mechanical ventilation with emphasis on modes, troubleshooting, and real-time decision-making. a separate Advanced Neonatal Resuscitation Program (ANRP) certified by the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) was also conducted. This structured, evidence-based program focused on strengthening knowledge and hands-on skills in neonatal resuscitation, including airway management, ventilation strategies, chest compressions, medication administration, and post-resuscitation care. The ANRP session was well received and added significant value by enhancing preparedness for managing neonatal emergencies in both emergency and delivery room settings.
All sessions were highly interactive and ensured active participation, enhancing procedural confidence and clinical preparedness among postgraduate trainees. All workshops were interactive and skill-oriented.
Undergraduate Workshops
Undergraduate participants underwent hands-on training aimed at building strong foundational skills in Emergency Medicine. The workshops introduced basic point-of-care ultrasound with emphasis on probe handling, image acquisition, and essential FAST views. Fundamental trauma life support skills were reinforced through practical training in primary assessment, cervical spine protection, hemorrhage control, and patient stabilization. In addition, a focused ECG workshop helped participants develop the ability to rapidly interpret common rhythms and identify life-threatening cardiac emergencies, thereby improving clinical confidence and early decision-making.
Paramedic Workshops
Paramedic participants received structured, skill-based training tailored to real-world prehospital and emergency department responsibilities. The workshops covered crash cart organization and emergency equipment handling, safe drug dilution and preparation of commonly used emergency medications, and airway management techniques ranging from basic adjuncts to assisted ventilation. Participants were also trained in essential emergency procedures, hemorrhage control, splinting, and pelvic binder application, along with ambulance operations emphasizing patient transport safety, immobilization, and structured handover practices. These sessions strengthened practical competencies and reinforced teamwork in emergency care delivery.
The conference concluded with a valedictory function graced by Dr. Prasaana Kumar, IPS, District Superintendent of Police, Tirunelveli District. Certificates were distributed and the organizing committee was appreciated for the successful conduct of the conference.
EM–SANGAMAM 2025 was a grand success, achieving its objectives of academic enrichment, skill development, and collaborative learning in Emergency Medicine.
