The Leadership of EMA India was bestowed the “Excellence in Emergency Medicine” award at TOPCOM2019Malaysia.

TOPCOM 2019: The International Table Top Exercise and Communication in Disaster Medicine (TOPCOM VII) was held from 1st July to 6th July 2019 in Selayang, Malaysia.

The conference was organized by the Emergency and Trauma Department of Hospital Selayang, in collaboration with multiple other agencies and organizations. Course Director for the event was Datuk Dr. Mohamed Alwi Bin Haji Abdul Rahman, Head of Department and Consultant of Emergency Medicine and Disaster Management, Seylang University Hospital, a tertiary teaching referral hospital in Seylang, Kaulalampur, Malaysia.

The pre-conference covered a wide range of topics, including critical care, prehospital care and trauma, wilderness medicine, CBRNE, tactical medicine, ultrasound and many more.

The tabletop exercise is a focused, comprehensive and beneficial guide that has been increasingly adopted and successfully incorporated by the various agencies of the international community. The purpose of this exercise is to facilitate constructive discussions and analysis of various emergency situations that are commonly faced – in an informal stress free environment. A scenario is described to the exercise participants, who would then decide what actions they would take. Often, the scenario is designed to change over time, with the facilitator providing updated information or changing conditions as the exercise progresses.

TOPCOM2019 was held in partnership with multiple agencies and was the Annual Disaster Health Meeting of the World Academic Council of Emergency Medicine (WACEM) focussed on Crisis Leadership and Emergency Preparedness.

Preparedness Experts from all over the world including USA, UK, India, Australia, Qatar, Singapore, Japan, SriLanka and Nepal participated in TOPCOM2019.

EMA leaders Dr.Vimal Krishnan and Dr.Siju Abraham represented India at TOPCOM2019.

WACEM Secretary General Dr. Al Thani (Qatar), Dr. Lateef (Singapore), Dr Arquilla (USA), Dr.ElMenyar (Qatar) and Dr. Pia Daniels (USA) and many other leaders were STAR speakers at TOPCOM2019.

The conference hosted more than 400 participants from all areas of healthcare and emergency management and comprised of over multiple track over one week with renowned international as well as a range of interactive and innovative sessions designed to maximize the learning opportunities for participants.
