The Emergency Medicine Pediatric Advances and Recent Trends (EMPART) program is a flagship initiative under INDUSEM and the Academic College of Emergency Experts (ACEE), designed to transform pediatric emergency care in India through structured, simulation-based, evidence-driven training. With ten successful national editions behind it, EMPART reached a historic milestone in 2025 with its 11th edition being hosted for the first time in Uttar Pradesh, at the prestigious Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr. RMLIMS), Lucknow, from 1st to 3rd August 2025.

The course was inaugurated at the state-of-the-art auditorium of Dr. RMLIMS in the presence of Chief Guest Prof. Sanjeev Misra, Vice Chancellor of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University and former Director of AIIMS Jodhpur, along with Guest of Honor Prof. Dr. Ajai Singh, Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal and incoming Vice Chancellor of Uttar Pradesh University of Medical Sciences, Saifai. The event was presided over by Patron Prof. C.M. Singh, Director, Dr. RMLIMS, and Co-Patron Prof. Pradyumun Singh, Dean of the institute. Program direction was led by Dr. Neha Thakur Rai, In-Charge of Pediatric Emergency at Dr. RMLIMS and General Secretary of the IAP-PEM chapter.

The three-day conclave brought together over 300 healthcare professionals, including pediatricians, emergency physicians, residents, nurses, and paramedical staff. The first day of the program was dedicated to critical concepts in pediatric resuscitation and stabilization. Lectures covered initial triage, pediatric airway management, shock recognition, CPR guideline updates, and systemic acid-base emergencies. In the latter half, immersive skill stations offered hands-on training in airway and ventilation techniques, cardiac rhythm management, trauma skills such as helmet removal, and cervical spine stabilization.

On the second day, the program transitioned into complex systemic emergencies, including febrile child evaluation, infectious disease management, surgical abdominal emergencies, and neurological crisis care. The trauma capsule segment was a standout, training participants in polytrauma handling, head and thoracic trauma, abdominal-pelvic injuries, and extremity stabilization. The afternoon featured lectures on toxicology, envenomation, burns, and bites, leading into a high-intensity MEGA CODE simulation, where teams of participants managed full-scale resuscitation scenarios under expert supervision.

The third and final day broadened the scope to include pain management, procedural sedation, diabetic ketoacidosis, dermatological red flags, and ENT and ophthalmic emergencies. A particularly impactful session on child abuse sensitized participants to the broader psychosocial context of emergency care. The final lectures addressed environmental, oncological, and hypertensive emergencies. The program concluded with a vibrant valedictory function that celebrated participation, excellence, and collaboration.

One of the highlights of EMPART 2025 was the official release of the fourth edition of “CODE PEM,” the flagship newsletter of the IAP-PEM chapter. Another significant milestone was the role of Dr. RMLIMS as the first institution in Uttar Pradesh to host the national EMPART course and to champion the implementation of the Pediatric Trauma Resuscitation Module (PTRM)—a high-fidelity simulation-based training model developed to meet the unique challenges of pediatric trauma care in India.

The program received strong academic and infrastructural support from INDUSEM, ACEE, IAP-PEM, and CASD-KGMU. The faculty included international leaders and national experts who lent depth and global perspective to the training. With its structured approach, passionate delivery, and state-of-the-art execution, EMPART 2025 has set a new benchmark in pediatric emergency preparedness for North India and beyond.

About Dr. Neha Thakur Rai

Dr. Neha Thakur Rai is a nationally recognized leader in pediatric emergency medicine and currently serves as the General Secretary of the Pediatric Emergency Medicine Chapter of the Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP-PEM). She is also Professor (Jr) in the Department of Pediatrics at Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Institute of Medical Sciences (Dr. RMLIMS), Lucknow. After completing her MBBS from Calcutta University, Kolkata, and MD in Pediatrics from the prestigious Banaras Hindu University (BHU), Varanasi, she has dedicated herself to advancing pediatric emergency education in India. She has played a pivotal role in designing and nationally rolling out structured training programs like the Pediatric Trauma Resuscitation Module (PTRM) and EMPART, which use simulation, ultrasonography, and hands-on skills to standardize pediatric emergency care. Her efforts have helped establish Dr. RMLIMS as the first center in Uttar Pradesh to host EMPART and a regional hub for pediatric emergency training.

“Dr. Thakur has done a phenomenal exercise in setting up PTRM based on fundamentals of my principles of Collaborative Creativity. Pediatric Injury care is very different from adult injury care and a specific training module is needed when the children with trauma need resuscitation. Combining simulation and sonography into the modular mix enhances the learnability quotient of PTRM. I am confident PTRM will save many lives of children with trauma who are the future of BHARAT.” Said INDUSEM CEO Dr. Sagar Galwankar.
