In a landmark academic convergence reflecting the rapid evolution of Emergency Medicine in India, EMKERALA 2026 concluded with resounding success, emerging as the largest Emergency Medicine conference ever conducted in Kerala.
Organized by the Emergency Medicine Association Kerala and hosted at Apollo Adlux Hospital, the conference witnessed participation from over 500 delagates including emergency physicians, intensivists, residents, nurses, and paramedics from across the country.
The conference was inaugurated by Dr. Mohanan Kunnummal, who emphasized the growing importance of structured training, simulation-based learning, and academic integration in strengthening emergency care systems.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by prominent leaders in Emergency Medicine including:
- Dr. Akhil S L, Undersecretary, EMA Kerala
- Dr. Linu S M, Past Undersecretary, EMA Kerala
- Dr. Vimal Krishnan S, Secretary General, World Academic Council of Emergency Medicine
- Dr. Mohammed Haneef M, EMA South Zone Secretary
- Dr. Dhavapalani Alagappan, Clinical Director, Apollo Hospitals Chennai Division
Leadership from Apollo Adlux Hospital including Dr. Anjana Sudheesan, Dr. Abel George, Dr. Remesh Kumar R, and Dr. Saju Samuel Jacob were also present.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. Binoy Xavier K P, Organizing Chairperson, highlighting the transformative growth of Emergency Medicine in Kerala.
Under the leadership of Dr. Renjith T P, Scientific Committee Chairperson, the conference featured a meticulously curated academic program focused on clinically relevant, high-impact learning.
A defining feature of EMKERALA26 was its strong emphasis on simulation and hands-on training, with 7 pre-conference workshops conducted across major centers in Kochi.
These workshops marked significant advancements in structured Emergency Medicine training in Kerala.
The conference hosted several high-impact panel discussions and moderator-led sessions. One of the standout features of EMKERALA 2026 was SIMWAR, a high-intensity simulation-based competition curated by Dr. Nirmal and Dr. Mario Antony. This multidisciplinary event set a new benchmark in experiential learning and simulation-based assessment, drawing enthusiastic participation and faculty involvement. Additional engagement formats included Structured academic debates, Poster and podium presentations & Quiz competitions

Recognizing Academic Excellence. The conference introduced the EMA Best Academic Institution Award 2025, recognizing institutions demonstrating excellence in Emergency Medicine training, research, and academic leadership.
Experts reiterated that the Emergency Medicine Association Kerala continues to serve as a strong collective voice for emergency physicians, fostering academic collaboration, innovation, and quality improvement in patient care.
With its scale, academic depth, and forward-looking vision, EMKERALA 2026 stands as a milestone event in the journey of Emergency Medicine in Kerala.
